The Dutch Show Jumping Team won the Silver Medal at the Olympics in London after an exciting jump-off. They were in the jump-off against the British Show Jumping Team who were the winners of the Gold medal. With 23,000 wildly enthusiastic spectators packed in the stadium it was a huge sports festival.
Although Jur and VDL Bubalu now brilliantly made a clear round in the jump-off it was just not enough to defeat the British Team. ‘But we won silver and we are very pleased with it!’ said Jur Vrieling afterwards. He had expected a jump-off would be necessary: ‘My ride was fast, but we did not go over the top, I found it a fantastic experience’.
In the individual competition for the medals on Wednesday only three riders per country are allowed to the start. And although Jur ended 33rd (the best 35 are allowed to) the Olympic Games have now ended for VDL Bubalu and Jur Vrieling. But with a fantastic silver medal in his pocket!
