After previously winning in Kronenberg and Ermelo, Merlot VDL was also victorious in Groningen. Femke de Laat and Merlot VDL received the following scores: 8 for walk, 8.4 for canter, 8.5 for harmony, 8.7 for overall impression and a whopping 8.8 for trot.

Merlot VDL is bred by the Klinkhamer family from Sleen and is co-owned with Saskia van Musscher from Obdam.
